The designs in Gordon’s turned pieces are inspired from his love of New Zealand natural history.
In these pieces Gordon loves exploring the boundaries of woodturning on the lathe and then hand carving of intricate designs into the timber.

Gordon has developed a series of thin turned pieces with a pierced fern as a signature piece. Gordon started woodturning in 2004 at the South Auckland Woodturners Guild. Gordon has grown to love the New Zealand bush for its unique flora and fauna.Īnother part of Gordon’s life is his artwork, particularly his natural history illustrations and fine art, this combined with his love of woodworking has also developed into woodturning. Having moved to New Zealand, Gordon has been involved extensively with the great outdoors including tramping, hunting, fishing, scuba diving. Gordon now works for himself and is involved in graphic design, 3D design, fine art, illustration, photography, digital imaging, and woodturning. Gordon completed his education at boarding school in Wanganui, New Zealand, also attending art school and various courses in design and chose the photographic trade as a career. As a young boy being lucky enough to experience the wilds of Africa, along with many an adventure in the bush, Gordon has developed a passion for natural history. Hwork has been featured in American Woodturner, Creative Wood, New Zealand, Woodturning UK, Woodworker West, British Woodworking and Woodturning Design Magazines.Gordon Pembridge was born in Kenya and spent his first ten years there. Mike is proud member of the Chattahoochee Woodturners, the American Association of Woodturners, Collectors of Wood Art, Carolina Mountain Woodturners, the Atlanta Woodturners Guild and the Georgia Association of Woodturners. His work is sought after by high end galleries and gift shops throughout the world. The artwork created has garnered the attention of many collectors and has been included in corporate and private collections. His work has been published in many journals nationally and internationally. He has taught in workshops, chapter classrooms and in private settings. During the last several years he has taught in Canada, Norway, England, Turkey, and New Zealand as well as throughout the United States. Michael is in high demand as a teacher and his wonderful techniques are taught to students from around the world. He has demonstrated for numerous chapters of the AAW and have been feature demonstrator in several States symposiums. He demonstrated at the 2016 AAW International Symposium in Atlanta, and was awarded "Peoples Choice" for his piece in the exhibition Turning 30. At the 2015 International Symposium he was awarded "Master Choice" in the Merging Exhibition. Michael was a featured demonstrator at the American Association of Woodturners International Symposium in 2013 and received high honors as recipients of the Award of Excellence for one of his pieces.
